Monique Sparks isn’t just an attorney, she’s a fighter, a storyteller, and a relentless advocate for
justice. Born in Wichita, Kansas and raised in Missouri City, Texas, Monique’s journey into law
was driven by a deep belief in fairness and a passion for standing up for people when they need it
most.
She earned her B.A. in Political Science from Dillard University in New Orleans, where she first
began to see how power, systems, and people intersect. She went on to earn her law degree from
Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, an experience that solidified
her commitment to serving her community through the law.
In 2008, Monique founded The Sparks Law Firm, a criminal defense firm built on integrity,
grit, and compassion. She leads a hand-picked team of warriors, each bringing unique strengths
and a shared mission to deliver not just legal defense, but human-centered advocacy. Every case
is approached with depth, strategy, and a deep respect for the people behind the file.
Monique is known for her fearless presence in the courtroom and her ability to connect with
juries through powerful storytelling. That gift was sharpened at the Gerry Spence Trial
Lawyers College, where she trained in 2010, hiking the mountains of Wyoming while mastering
client-centered representation and the art of trial advocacy.
Her commitment doesn’t stop at the courtroom doors. Monique has taken on major civil rights
efforts, including serving as lead counsel in the fight against the unconstitutional Southlawn
Gang Injunction, which threatened to strip 92 Black men in Harris County of their rights. In
2020, she co-founded the Houston Protest Defense Team, representing nearly 800 protestors
during a critical moment in our country’s history. She also co-founded the Diversity, Justice,
and Inclusion Committee of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, helping to
reshape what leadership and equity look like in the legal field.
